French artist Amaury Dubois is constantly questioning the world we live in. For him, everything is inspiring. A painter and graphic designer, Dubois is “a man who paints life in motion.” Featured in galleries across Europe, The Belgian Press has compared his work to the likes of Warhol and Koons. The surrealism and cubism found throughout his paintings is the visual manifestation of his philosophy on life and the world around him. In Dubois’ eyes, nothing is straight in real life, and this is reflected throughout his work. He explains his ideology:

“The movement of air, fluids, water, wind, light, all these energies we come across daily and in which we are walking and swimming in constantly. We are always drenched in atoms in movements. We are not glued to an object or a place but are in constant mutations. […] My work reveals this symbiosis where man and world become one…”

The fluidity of his work is a visual representation of how he perceives the world around him to be like. “Life is a movement and I try to capture that in my work, as if time stopped,” Dubois reveals. The curves sprawled across the canvases represent “the instinct of life itself.” His artwork is an interpretation of the cycle of life: nothing is created or lost, all gets recycled.

The surrealism and cubism found in his paintings is also evident in his photography. In his latest photo series, Dubois is able to capture the fluid movements of the world through fragmented images of landscapes reconstructed to create a new type of reality. The pieces’ curved edges create feelings of change and fluidity in the images making the landscapes feel foreign and dreamlike.
